Here’s a list of questions based on the sort of things I’m asked by potential clients. Feel free to use these when choosing your wedding photographer.

Where are you based?

I’m based in Meriden, near Birmingham Airport

Are you a full time professional photographer?

Yes. After more years than I care to remember as a keen amateur I became a full time professional photographer in 2008

How far will you travel for a wedding and at what cost?

I’ll travel within a radius of 50 miles from Meriden. As Meriden is the traditional centre of England I’m in the ideal location! If you’re outside this area, let me know – I’ll charge a modest rate to cover my additional travel expenses.

Do you ever use a second photographer?

Very occasionally, yes, if the client requests this. More often than not I am the only photographer.

Will all of our photographs be edited?

Yes. There is no digital image that cannot be improved by editing, and all of your photos will be adjusted accordingly.

Do you provide a video service?

No. My skill is as a photographer not videographer, but there are many skilled videographers working in this field should you wish to record the day in this way.

How much do you charge?

Depends on what you want! File only packages start at £950.00, prices increase as you add a pre wedding shoot and albums.

What is your style of photography?

My style tends towards reportage, i.e. unobtrusively capturing the day without a great deal of posing. I find most couples want this kind of coverage these days, but also have to consider the requirements of parents and grandparents who may want more traditional group shots. It’s important to keep everybody happy.

Will we have copyright of our photos?

Not as such, no, but you will have licence to print and share the photographs as you like. Copyright always stays with the photographer.

How long will it take for us to receive our photographs?

Typically within 2 weeks of the wedding, so when you return from honeymoon they will be waiting for you. At very busy periods it can take up to 3 weeks, but this would be unusual.

Can we order prints if we opt for a file only package?

Yes. The photos will be available to view and purchase via an online gallery that you will be given a password for. You can share this password with family and friends so that they can also view your photos and purchase prints if they wish to do so.

Do you offer Pre wedding shoots?

Yes, I do, and I recommend that all of my clients have one! We get to know each other, you’ll get used to my style of working, and we get to practise photos of the two of you together, so that on the day itself I don’t need to take you away from your guests for more than 15-20 minutes or so for a range of photos of the two of you together.

What sort of insurance do you have?

Public liability of £2,000,000 and professional indemnity of £50,000

What is your Plan B if it rains all day?

I take a range of studio lighting to each wedding in the unlikely event of us being unable to take any photographs outdoors. This can be set up indoors for group and couple photos if required.

How long have you been photographing weddings?

2017 will be my tenth year as a full time professional wedding photographer.

What are your payment terms?

I take a deposit of £300 to confirm the booking. The balance becomes payable 28 days prior to the date of the wedding. Payment can be by cheque, credit/debit card, PayPal, cash or by BACS transfer.

What if you were unable to attend due to sickness?

This has never happened to date, indeed I once shot a wedding whilst suffering with man flu – the show must go on! But if I were to be hit by a truck or worse, I have a circle of photographer friends who would be happy to help out and do an excellent job.

Do you offer a discount for off peak or weekday weddings?

Yes I do – a 15% discount for weekday weddings and those between 1st October and 31st March

Will you need feeding during the day?

I always provide my own food (it’s a long day after all), and do not expect you to go to the expense of feeding me. Should you decide to, however, I’ll be eternally grateful.

How long do you stay at the wedding?

Ten hours. For a typical wedding the day would start around 10.00am photographing the bride getting ready and finish at 8.00pm with cutting of the cake and the first dance.

Will you stay later if required?

Yes, additional hours will be billed at £30.00 per hour with your prior consent.

If we order an album, do we have any input into its design?

Yes, if you’d like to. I’ll supply a draft file for you to amend as you see fit, or you can provide input before the album is designed.

What back up do you have should things go wrong?

At least two of everything – cameras, lenses, flashguns, you name it. In practice I’ve never had to use them as I only use pro Canon equipment which is regularly maintained and serviced.
